Every now and then, I do something a little bit out of the ordinary. On this particular occasion, I decided to rent a fish eye lens for my Nikon camera after receiving an email that LensGiant had a 20% off promotion. I have rented this kind of lens before, and I absolutely love using it. Perhaps someday I will have saved up enough pennies to buy one.
The lens arrived perfectly on Friday afternoon, just after I arrived home from work. Good thing as it was a signature required delivery.
Saturday morning, my friend Laura and I headed up to Dupont State Forest in North Carolina. We were a bit concerned we might get rained on, but the Lord kept the storms and rain away the whole time we were out at Dupont. Dupont is one of my favorite places in the Carolinas. There are miles upon miles of trails, a number of waterfalls, and a magnificent overlook of the mountains. We attempted to park at the main waterfall access, but the parking lot was full by the time we got there (definitely will need to get there earlier in the future). We headed back down to the Fawn Lake access point. We walked from there to an old airstrip, at the end of which is the amazing overlook. We then headed back to the car. (My dog came along with us, and he got a bit tired out and overheated, so the hike took a bit longer than we anticipated.)

There were a plethora of butterflies and bumblebees out enjoying the flowers as well. We even made a quick stop at Bald Rock, a pull off overlook off of SC 276, for some shots on the way home.

On Sunday afternoon, my friend Anna and I headed out to Glendale Shoals. It is a small park area in the middle of nothing in Spartanburg county. A textile mill used to stand on the spot, but all that is left of it are three towers and some of the foundation. Now, there is a nice park area along with a community garden and a labyrinth to explore. During some parts of the year, you can find the Muscovy ducks swimming in the shoals, but we were not so lucky on this trip. This park is well worth the hour drive from Greenville, though. Peaceful and relaxing and not nearly as crowded as Falls Park. We even made it back in time to clean up before heading to the evening service at church!
