Situation: You are driving home from work along your usual route. At one of the busier intersections, the traffic is backed up more than typical (usually less than .1 mile, now about a quarter of a mile). The only other time you’ve seen it backed up like this is when there is an accident at the intersection, so you figure that’s probably what’s going on. As you get closer to the intersection, you see that indeed local police have the road blocked so that once you get to the intersection, you must go left or right.
Do you:
A.) Before you see the police blocking the road, decide to go on and drive up the center lane (aka “suicide” lane) ignoring the possibility of oncoming traffic also wanting to use the lane to turn left.
B.) Once you see the police blocking the road, ignore it and the people who have been patiently waiting in their lane and gradually merging and go on and drive as fast as possible till the last possible minute and then try to cut in line.
C.) Wish you had seen the road block earlier because you would have chosen to get in the other lane because it would be faster to get home by turning right instead of left, but you stay put anyway because it’s safer.
D.) Think about that helicopter purchase again…
