Perhaps someone out there can explain this phenomenon to me.
In the fall and winter, when ‘the weather outside is frightful,’ or at least getting colder, people joy in taking out their fall and winter clothes. The cashmere sweaters, the comfy sweatshirts, the wool skirts, etc. Great clothes for outside. However, if one is to wear these cute winter clothes shopping, or to any other public place for that matter, he soon regrets it. The heaters have been turned on. While it may be a comfortable (in a sweater and jacket) 60 degrees outside, it is a stifling 75-78 inside.
This phenomenon amazes me because it’s opposite occurs in the summer. One must go everywhere with a sweater or jacket to keep comfortable in the air conditioner. Now the reverse has happened…it’s 80 outside, but 65 inside.
Is there no happy medium?
Maybe it’s just a great marketing scheme to get us to buy cute t-shirts to wear under our cute cashmere sweaters and cute cardigans to carry around in the summer, but it is a bit of a pain. (especially when shopping in the winter…you must remove your jacket/coat, sweater, etc. come up with a way to carry them plus all the items you wish to purchase–think of at the mall where shopping carts are not readily available!)
So, forget the seasonal look. Because of our mastery of artificial climate control, we bind ourselves to wearing summer clothes in the winter and winter clothes in the summer.
I will never cease to be amazed at this phenomenon the thermostats have imposed upon us.
